HOW IT WORKS

It's a loop.

Point, match, stamp, browse — then back to the start for the next bird.

  1. 01

    Point or tap record

Open the camera and aim, or tap to record a song. Birdy checks a few times a second.

  2. 02

    Match

When Birdy is sure enough, you get a match.

  3. 03

    Stamp

A new page lands in your journal — one stamp for each species.

  4. 04

    Browse

Look back whenever you like, or search all 839 European species.

QUESTIONS · ANSWERED

Before you download.

How is this different from Merlin?
Merlin is brilliant at identifying birds — use it, it's great. Birdy is about what happens after: keeping each find in a field journal that's yours, offline, with no account. Many birders use both.
Does it really work offline?
Yes. The AI runs entirely on your phone — both for camera and audio. No data leaves the device.
Do I need an account?
No. Open the app, point the camera, you're scanning. Your journal lives on the phone.
Where are my photos stored?
On your device. Birdy never uploads photos to a server. There is no server.
How accurate is the AI?
Good enough to learn from, honest when it's unsure. Every match shows a confidence level, and you always confirm before it's saved.
What's covered?
839 European birds — every species in the EBBA2 atlas plus close relatives, with descriptions, photos and range information.
Is there an iOS version?
Not yet. Android first. iOS comes after launch if there is demand.
What about audio?
Hold the mic button for 3 seconds. BirdNET-Lite runs on-device, same offline guarantee.
